What is a Mercedes A Service?
Imagine owning a Mercedes only to have it break down because of a minor fault which could have been avoided. Pretty annoying, huh?
That’s what happens when you fail to service your vehicle regularly.
A regular Mercedes service keeps your luxury German vehicle in peak condition. It finds minor issues before they worsen, saving you £££ in future repair bills. The longer you leave between services, the higher your risk of breakdown. It’s stressful and potentially dangerous, don’t put your safety at risk.
To keep your Mercedes running like new, Mercedes has developed two types of service:
- Mercedes A Service
- Mercedes B Service
You should always keep your servicing schedule up to date and never skip one, no matter how tempting it might be. Both the Mercedes A and B Service are necessary to keep your Mercedes warranty intact and to ensure your safety.
When Mr G visited SB Autocare, he was unsure which service his Mercedes E Class needed.
Thankfully, our Mercedes specialists were on hand to help. With decades of experience working with the German brand, we knew exactly what to do. Plus, we have access to the same information the Mercedes dealerships do. There’s no problem our experts can’t handle.
As local Mercedes servicing experts, we could inform Mr G what type of Mercedes service his vehicle required. SB Autocare provides a thorough safety inspection with all services, ensuring your vehicle is safe to drive; you get better value than the local Mercedes dealership.

What’s the difference between Mercedes A service and Mercedes B service?
At SB Autocare, we’re often asked, “What’s the difference between a Mercedes A Service and Mercedes B Service?”.
Here are the key differences between them:
The Mercedes A Service is usually needed when your vehicle reaches one year old and is repeated every two years thereafter.
Mercedes A Service includes:
- Oil filter replacement
- Synthetic motor oil replacement
- Tyre inflation check & correction
- Brake component inspection
- Reset maintenance counter
On the other hand, the Mercedes B Service is more thorough. It’s best suited for older Mercedes vehicles or if you’ve driven a lot of miles.
The Mercedes B Service is generally needed one year after your Mercedes A Service. Each service alternates each year and work in conjunction with each other.
Depending on your mileage, your Mercedes B Service will be every two years.
Mercedes B Service includes:
- Synthetic motor oil replacement
- Oil filter replacement
- Reset maintenance counter
- Cabin dust/combination filter replacement
- Brake component inspection
When Mr G brought his Mercedes E Class to SB Autocare, he was unsure what service he needed.
Luckily, our Mercedes servicing specialists have access to the same manufacturer information as the main Mercedes dealers, so we identified what his E-Class needed immediately.
What happened next?
Once we checked the Mercedes digital service records, our specialist discovered Mr G’s vehicle needed a Mercedes A Service. But, during the Mercedes service, a small issue was discovered with his wheel alignment.
The E Class’s wheels had become misaligned. This is a fairly common issue caused by debris, curbs, speed bumps, and potholes. Most cars experience this issue over time. While it’s not a severe issue, it can develop into more serious problems like uneven tyre wear. This can affect drivability and puts your safety at risk.
You want to remain safe, right?
If left unchecked, the issue only worsens, resulting in a more expensive fix. It’s one of the last things you want. Luckily for Mr G, our experts spotted the problem before any severe damage took place. The only issue his Mercedes had was excessive wear on the left-hand rear tyre. It needed replacing as it didn’t have enough tread to make it past a couple of weeks.
Solving the issue
To prevent the Mercedes E Class from developing further issues, it was crucial to realign the wheels and replace the worn tyre. Before our experts realigned Mr G’s wheels, they rang him to discuss the faults they’d found and presented a solution.
At SB Autocare, you’re always kept in the loop. You’re in full control from the moment you enter our garage doors. Once Mr G gave us the go-ahead, our servicing experts got to work. We replaced the worn tyre and realigned the wheels to prevent the problem from continuing.
During our Mercedes A Service, your vehicle receives a thorough safety inspection to ensure your car is safe. We go beyond the scope of the Mercedes service guidelines, giving your vehicle the quality it deserves.
Mr G’s E Class passed our safety tests with flying colours, so we handed his keys back with confidence.
He was pleased to have his Mercedes back within 6 hours, something you wouldn’t expect from the main Mercedes dealership. At SB Autocare you always get better than dealership servicing for better value.
