What’s included in a Mercedes B Service?
Mercedes is a brand known for providing you with luxury. But to ensure your vehicle maintains its luxury status, it must be regularly maintained.
To help you keep your vehicle running like new, Mercedes has developed two types of service, the Mercedes A Service and Mercedes B Service.
At SB Autocare, we go above and beyond the Mercedes guidelines, whether you’re getting a service or require a more complex repair to your Mercedes.
To remain safe on the road, don’t be tempted to skip your scheduled service to “save a few quid”; it’s not worth the hassle and costs you more in the long run. Whether you’re due the Mercedes A Service or B Service, you need both to remain safe and to keep your Mercedes warranty intact.
Mr K knew his Mercedes CLA needed a service but had lost track of which type his vehicle needed. It’s common to lose track; it happens to the best of us. The last thing he wanted to do was book the wrong one, so he called our team at SB Autocare. Our Mercedes servicing experts have decades of experience servicing every type of Mercedes and can solve any problems thrown their way. We find issues other garages might overlook.
With every Mercedes service at SB Autocare, your vehicle receives a free safety inspection, providing you with better than dealership value while keeping you safe on the road. We solve issues quickly without sacrificing your safety.
During Mr K’s Mercedes B Service, our experts discovered a troublesome issue, but more on that in a moment.

What’s the difference between Mercedes A Service and Mercedes B Service?
We’re often asked, “what’s the difference between the Mercedes A Service and Mercedes B Service?”.
To help you out, here’s a brief highlight of the main differences between the two Mercedes services.
The Mercedes A Service is generally required once your vehicle is one year old and is repeated every two years (depending on your mileage).
Mercedes A Service Includes:
- Synthetic motor oil replacement
- Oil filter replacement
- Brake component inspection
- Tyre inflation check and correction
- Reset maintenance counter
The Mercedes B Service is a more complex service. It’s best suited for older Mercedes vehicles or if you’ve driven many miles. Your first Mercedes B Service is required one year after your Mercedes A Service or when your vehicle reaches 20,000 miles.
Mercedes B Service includes:
- Synthetic motor oil replacement
- Oil filter replacement
- Cabin dust/combination filter replacement
- Brake component inspection
- Reset maintenance counter
Each Mercedes service type alternates with the other, so the Mercedes A Service is every two years, and the Mercedes B Service fits in between.
When Mr K came to SB Autocare, he needed assistance figuring out which service he needed. Luckily, our Mercedes service technicians have access to the same information as the main Mercedes dealer, so we can always provide dealership-level servicing for better value.
What happened Next?
Our Mercedes experts accessed the Mercedes digital service records and found Mr K’s CLA was due the Mercedes B Service. Once this had been clarified, our servicing specialists could proceed to the next stage of our service.
At SB Autocare, your safety is our priority. It’s one of the reasons we provide a complimentary vehicle safety inspection with every Mercedes service. Mr K was pleased to know we had his safety in mind and was even happier when we found a worrying issue with his CLA’s braking system.
Our technicians discovered his brake discs were below the minimum thickness and required immediate attention. Having brakes below the minimum thickness is incredibly dangerous and illegal. They can prevent you from braking effectively, putting your safety at risk. Poor quality brakes cause 25% of road accidents in the United Kingdom and should never be ignored.
You want your brakes working correctly, right?
Replacing brake discs, pads, and fluid isn’t part of the Mercedes B Service, but at SB Autocare, we go the extra mile, ensuring you get better than dealership servicing. We use our decades of experience and our comprehensive evaluation process to thoroughly test the braking system of all Mercedes cars brought into our garage. There’s no guesswork here, only accurate testing and measurements. Your vehicle is thoroughly inspected to ensure it is safe to drive. We identify minor faults early before they become serious (and costly) problems.
Before we started to fix the issues we found, our specialists called Mr K to discuss the dangerous level of his vehicle’s disc brakes. He immediately gave us permission to replace them to make his Mercedes roadworthy again.
To help Mr K remain on the road while we worked on his Mercedes CLA, we offered him a free courtesy vehicle. Most Mercedes B Services take 2 hours to complete, so a courtesy car isn’t always required, but at SB Autocare, we like to give you the option.
The main Mercedes dealership can’t provide this, not without an additional cost. Plus, the turnaround time is often slower, keeping you off the road longer. We offer a quicker turnaround without sacrificing quality.
Solving the issue
As Mr K’s brakes were unsafe, we sourced genuine Mercedes parts to give his CLA the quality it needs to remain like new. And to keep his Mercedes warranty intact.
Once the brakes were replaced, we thoroughly road-tested his vehicle to ensure the Mercedes CLA was roadworthy and the brakes were working as they should. We then updated the Mercedes digital service history to ensure the manufacturer warranty was maintained. The Mercedes passed our tests with flying colours, and our Mercedes servicing experts could confidently hand Mr K his keys.
He was pleased to have his CLA back in complete working condition on the same day he’d dropped the vehicle off. At SB Autocare, we offer a faster turnaround than the main dealership while giving you better value.
Summary
Mr K brought his Mercedes CLA to SB Autocare for its annual service, but he was unsure what type he needed. Was it the Mercedes A Service or B Service?
Luckily, our Mercedes servicing experts have access to the same information the dealerships do and can identify which type of service is needed. Mr K’s CLA needed the Mercedes B Service, which our specialists know like the back of their hand.
During the Mercedes B Service, our experts performed a free safety inspection and discovered the vehicle’s brakes were below the minimum legal thickness. To ensure the Mercedes remained safe to drive, our specialists sourced genuine parts and replaced the brake pads, discs, and fluid on the same day.
Mr K was pleased to have his vehicle back in prime condition and drove out of our garage with a smile.
